Bij de vlakbouw methode ligt de spoelbak ook gelijk met het werkblad, maar in tegenstelling tot inbouwspoelbakken, hebben ze een vlakke rand. Dit geeft een moderne uitstraling aan de keuken en maakt het gemakkelijk om kruimels en vuil in de spoelbak te vegen.
Vlakinbouw spoelbakken worden in een uitsparing geplaatst waarbij de bovenrand gelijk ligt met het werkblad, maar de randen van de spoelbak zijn hierbij nog wel zichtbaar. Deze methode biedt een mooie balans tussen de naadloze look van inbouwspoelbakken en de moderne uitstraling van een vlakbouw spoelbak.
Bij een opbouw spoelbak rust de spoelbak boven op het werkblad. Vaak zie je deze methode terugkomen bij spoelbakken met een afdruipgedeelte. Met deze methode ben je verzekerd dat de spoelbak nooit zal loslaten.
Belfast spoelbakken, ook wel boerderij spoelbak of landelijke spoelbak genoemd, zijn vrij diepe spoelbakken met een aan de voorkant uitstekende rand. Ze worden meestal in de voorkant van het werkblad geplaatst en kunnen een landelijke of rustieke uitstraling aan de keuken geven. Deze spoelbakken zijn vaak een stuk groter en dieper dan de huis tuin en keuken spoelbak & ideaal voor het wassen van grote pannen en schalen.
